|State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi Speaks on the Phone with Indonesian Government's Coordinator for Cooperation with China and Coordinating Minister Luhut Pandjaitan|
On 4 June, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with Indonesian government's coordinator for cooperation with China and Coordinating Minister Luhut Pandjaitan.
Luhut expressed warm congratulations on the success of the recent NPC and CPPCC sessions, a milestone marking China's victory over the disease. Indonesia feels proud of China's accomplishments in swiftly bringing the virus under control and wants to learn from China's experience. He thanked China for providing medical supplies at the most critical moment and helping Indonesia fight the virus and bring life and work back on track. Indonesia will accelerate the development of the Jakarta-Bandung railway and other major projects of Belt and Road cooperation. Luhut hoped that the two sides will soon open chartered flights and resume commercial flights as part of the joint efforts to achieve economic recovery in both countries.
Wang noted that with the strong support of Indonesia and the wider global community, China was among the first to bring the virus under control. The successful convening of the NPC and CPPCC sessions is indeed a landmark. We will push for an early restoration of normal life and work while keeping up containment on a regular basis. The Indonesian government under the leadership of President Joko Widodo has tackled the challenge of COVID-19 head on and achieved notable progress. It will win victory on both fronts of controlling the virus and growing the economy.
Wang stressed the importance for China and Indonesia, both important emerging economies and major developing countries, to stay united against any disturbance or disruption, and concentrate on the goal of modernization. The two sides may strengthen cooperation on COVID-19 response, conduct exchanges on vaccine development and the Chinese herbal medicine, establish a "fast-track lane" for personnel flows and business cooperation, open a "green lane" for the delivery of essential supplies, facilitate the early restart of major BRI projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung railway, and keep the smooth and steady running of the industrial and supply chains. Educational, religious and cultural exchanges also need to be stepped up to cement popular support for friendship between our two peoples.
Wang pointed out some Western politicians are spreading the "political virus" by shifting blame and undermining global anti-epidemic cooperation. China appreciates Indonesia's unequivocal opposition to politicizing the virus and stigmatizing any particular country. China stands ready to work with Indonesia to advance cooperation on WHO, the G20 and other multilateral platforms, and jointly build a global community of health for all.
The two sides agreed to discuss the establishment of a "fast-track lane" to facilitate essential personnel flows.
