China, Japan and ROK Hold
Special Foreign Ministers' Video Conference on COVID-19

On 20 March, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, ROK Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi held a special video conference on COVID-19.

Wang Yi expressed appreciation to the ROK and Japan for supporting China's initiative to hold this special foreign ministers' video conference. He hailed the meeting as a demonstration of the three countries' firm resolve to overcome the difficulties together with solidarity and coordination, and their strong commitment to triumph over the epidemic through partnership and maintain normal exchanges and cooperation.

Wang noted that, caught by the COVID-19 outbreak, the three countries have come to one another's aid and written a touching chapter of friendship and solidarity based on a recognition of the wisdom in the verse that "Though we live in different lands, the same moon and sky make us one". The ROK and Japan were among the first countries to have lent a helping hand to China right after the outbreak began. Seeing the recent outbreak in the ROK and Japan, the Chinese government and people have reciprocated their sympathy and support and helped the two countries to the best of our ability. Such mutual goodwill and comradeship give concrete expression to the poetic lines shared by the three countries: "United by the same humanity, we forget our nationality" and "Mountains cannot force us asunder, we weather the storm together".

Wang pointed out that as close neighbors, the three countries enjoy deeply entwined interests and robust people-to-people ties, and thus have no choice but to strengthen cooperation in the face of a common challenge. He expressed China's hope that the meeting will facilitate the three countries' ongoing efforts to share experience, coordinate policy and agree on meaningful cooperation.
