|Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha of the Republic of Korea (ROK)|
On February 15, 2020 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in Munich on the sidelines of the 56th Munich Security Conference.
Wang Yi first briefed on the latest situation of China's fight against the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic. Wang Yi said, the international community, especially the neighboring countries, needs to understand and cooperate with each other to respond to the epidemic. China is on the frontline of the war against the epidemic this time. We are fully confident in winning the war as early as possible. I appreciate the ROK side's support and aid to China, and believe that the friendship between the two peoples will be strengthened in the process.
Wang Yi said, the epidemic will eventually pass, and we hope that normal exchanges between China and the ROK will resume at an early date. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen communication with the ROK side, in a bid to well prepare the already-scheduled high-level exchanges between the two countries this year. China is willing to cooperate with the ROK in health care, science and technology, and other new fields to promote China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership for new progress. We are also willing to continue close coordination with the ROK side and jointly play constructive roles for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and a political solution to the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
Kang Kyung-wha expressed, the ROK and China are close neighbors. The ROK side highly appreciates the great efforts by the Chinese government and its people in the fight against the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic. The ROK side will continue the cooperation with China in this regard and hopes that the epidemic will be fully contained as soon as possible. The ROK side is also willing to work with the Chinese side to prepare for a series of high-level exchanges this year, and deepen cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, industry, environment, health, and people-to-people and cultural engagement, in a bid to elevate ROK-China strategic cooperative partnership to new highs. The ROK side hopes to maintain communication with the Chinese side over the situation on the Peninsula.
