2020/02/16

On February 15, 2020 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on the sidelines of the 56th Munich Security Conference.

Wang Yi expressed, when I saw President Emmanuel Macron this morning before delivering a speech at the Munich Security Conference, he took the opportunity to express the French side's firm support to China in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, for which the Chinese side would like to express its gratitude. Under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, the Chinese people are fighting the epidemic in solidarity, and positive results have been achieved thanks to various control measures. After the epidemic, the Chinese economy will achieve more solid and sustainable growth, and the Chinese people will rally closer together and march confidently toward the set goals. Meanwhile, the epidemic allows us to learn who China's friends are indeed. It is believed that the China-France friendship will stand up to the test and be deepened. The Chinese side is ready to carry out close high-level exchanges with the French side, and to make concerted efforts to advance various important political agendas this year, and in the meantime to promote China-Europe cooperation.

Jean-Yves Le Drian noted, the French side appreciates the Chinese side's arduous efforts to stem the epidemic, and will stay in solidarity with China to staunchly support the Chinese side in its fight against the epidemic. Apart from the supplies the French side has already donated to China, more aid supplies will be provided by France to the Chinese side. Adversity reveals true friendship. The French Consulate in Wuhan is still operating, with which the French side hopes to testify that France and China are true friends, and that the French side is willing to overcome difficulties with the Chinese side. The French side will not adopt or tolerate any discriminatory measures, and will remain calm and rational in handling the matter. The French side is ready to strengthen bilateral cooperation with the Chinese side in all fields as well as coordination with China on issues such as climate change.
