Wang Yi Holds Telephone Talks with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian

On January 27, 2020, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks at request with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.

On behalf of the French government, Jean-Yves Le Drian expressed condolences to the loss caused by the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic to the Chinese side and wished all patients a speedy recovery. Jean-Yves Le Drian said, the French side highly appreciates the Chinese government’s active and strong response to the epidemic and its dedication to preventing the spread of the epidemic, and admires the Chinese side’s resolve and courage in combating the epidemic. The French side stands ready to offer all necessary assistance to the Chinese side if needed.

Wang Yi said, the Chinese government has ordered administrations at all levels to make joint prevention and control of the outbreak a top priority. President Xi Jinping has repeatedly given important instructions in tackling the epidemic. Under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government, China is accelerating the establishment of a prevention and control system covering the whole country in a scientific and orderly manner. The epidemic in general is preventable, controllable and curable. The Chinese side has taken a series of decisive measures to prevent the spread of the epidemic and put everything back on track as soon as possible. The Chinese government and people are united as one. We have confidence, capability and resources to win the battle against the novel coronavirus outbreak as soon as possible.

Wang Yi stressed, this epidemic reminds us once again that the destinies of all countries are closely linked as they share weal and woe in the era of globalization. Strengthening international cooperation in public health should be one of the important agendas of global governance. From fighting against epidemics in China -- the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome and the outbreak of the novel coronavirus -- to combatting other epidemics around the world like Ebola in Africa and the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, China has assumed its due international obligations as a responsible nation, and China always cooperates with the international community in the spirit of openness, transparency, science and collaboration. The Chinese side is willing to work with all countries including the French side to jointly safeguard the life safety and health of people in China and around the world.

Wang Yi noted, we always put the life and health of the Chinese citizens and foreigners in Wuhan, Hubei Province above everything else, and will continue to take effective measures to resolve their reasonable concerns in a timely manner.
