Wang Yi communicates with German Foreign Minister Maas on Sino-German relations

On the evening of February 1, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a telephone conversation with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas at the latter's request, and the two sides exchanged in-depth views on Sino-German relations.

Maas said, this year is a very important year for German-Chinese relations. Germany is willing to make positive efforts to work with China to improve and develop German-Chinese relations. Maas emphasized that the German government adheres to the principles established in a series of important political documents reached between the two countries in recent years, respects China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, honors the one-China policy, considers Hong Kong as part of China, and supports the "One country, Two systems" policy as the foundation of maintaining long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong. The German side is willing to, in the spirit of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, respect each other's core interests, strengthen exchanges and dialogue, enhance mutual understanding and trust, and promote bilateral and multilateral cooperation in various areas with China. Germany will take over the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of this year. Germany is willing to work with China to ensure that all important political agendas between EU and China should go smoothly and successfully.

Wang Yi pointed out that the current international situation is undergoing profound and complex changes with increasing instability and uncertainty. As great powers with important influences, China and Germany should strengthen strategic communication and cooperation. China attaches great importance to the above-mentioned commitments of Germany and hopes that Germany will fulfill them with practical action. The key is to adhere to the basic norms of international relations of mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, strengthen dialogue, deepen mutual trust, properly handle differences, and maintain and promote the healthy and stable development of relations between the two countries. China is willing to strengthen coordination with Germany, and promote China-EU relations to a new level.
