Chinese and Japanese Foreign Ministers Deliver Written Speeches at the Youth Friendly Exchange Conference

On December 23, 2019, the China-Japan youth friendly exchange conference was held in Beijing. State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi of Japan delivered written speeches.

Wang Yi congratulated on the grand opening of the China-Japan youth friendly exchange conference, and said, people-to-people ties hold the key to good state-to-state relations. In June this year, a young Japanese man Daichi Nakashima wrote a letter to President Xi Jinping to express his strong wish to engage in the cause of China-Japan friendship. President Xi Jinping pointed out in his reply, China and Japan are close neighbors separated by only a narrow strip of water. The friendship between the two countries is rooted in the people, and the future of the friendship between the two peoples is in the hands of the young people. As President Xi Jinping has pointed out, the friendship between the two countries' young people is crucial to China-Japan relations, as you represent not only the hope of our respective countries, but the future of our relationship.

Wang Yi stressed, China-Japan relations are now standing at a new historical starting point. Under the joint leadership of the leaders of the two countries, all sectors of the two sides are working hard to build bilateral relations that fit the needs of the new era. I sincerely hope that the young people of the two countries can realize their responsibilities, take concrete actions bit by bit, make unremitting efforts to maintain China-Japan friendship, promote China-Japan exchanges and propel China-Japan cooperation, so as to jointly open up a bright future for China-Japan relations with youth and vitality.

In his written speech, Toshimitsu Motegi expressed the hope that the youth of the two countries could experience each other's life, culture and society through friendly exchanges, so as to realize true mutual understanding and become a new bridge and bond for bilateral relations.

The China-Japan youth friendly exchange conference was co-organized by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and China-Japan Friendship Association. As the governments of China and Japan designated this year as China-Japan Youth Exchange Promotion Year, this conference is an important part of it. Over 1,200 friendly people from all walks of life and young people from both sides were present.
